CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 News) — Players hit the tennis courts at Boar’s Head Resort on Saturday morning for the 18th annual In the Pink tennis tournament.

The tournament was hosted by The Women’s Committee from the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation. Players were at four different tennis clubs in the Charlottesville area to raise money for Marianne’s Room at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. Marianne’s Room provides cancer patients with free wigs, chemo caps, scarves, hats, and other resources.

Amy Nolasco, chair of The Women’s Committee, said they needed more support this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Just because COVID is here doesn’t mean that all the other health crises have gone away,” she said. “It’s actually caused issues with patients that probably needed treatment in the spring and summer, but didn’t get it. Patients that weren’t diagnosed with cancer as early as they should’ve been and so there’s actually a lot of acute crises going on.

Nolasco said they’re looking forward to hosting the event again next year.
